Hello and welcome to 2023! Today I’m revisiting a social media post from January 2, 2023 – my ‘A-G’ for becoming your best self and achieving success and wellness in 2023 and beyond. It’s had a few things added to make it The A-J of Success and Wellness.
I was in full swing on January 1 and 2 – then various bugs hit our household. So, here I am now. It’s not so much like January never happened – it just happened differently. Without being woo-woo about it, I’ve decided it was my wholistic reset – because whilst unexpected, it ended up being a good thing. Of course!
The A-J of Success and Wellness
A is for ACTION
Taking action, instead of overthinking or procrastinating. Making informed decisions is important. It’s when fear or indecisiveness gets in the way of ‘doing’ that it’s often better to ‘just do’. There’s probably a 50-50 chance you’ll get it right. And if you don’t? Well, we learn more from ‘doing’ and making a mistake, than from doing nothing at all.
B is for BELIEF
Believing in yourself, what you’re doing, and what you can achieve is powerful. Be aware of what you say to yourself, what others say to you and be wary of buying into limitations others place on you because of… any reason.
C is for CONSISTENCY
Consistent daily actions get the results. It’s true in learning and study. It’s how we develop meaningful relationships through ongoing contact. Achieving improved health and fitness happens with consistent attention and actions.
D is for DESIRE, DETERMINATION and DESERVING
Want something badly enough? Do you believe you deserve it? It’s amazing what we can achieve when we have a strong enough desire and determination – or how easily we can sabotage efforts when the desire or determination isn’t there. Maybe a big question here is “Is this what I want – or what someone else wants for me?”
E is for ENGAGEMENT and ENERGY
I define engagement as “the energy to be present”. You’ll recognise it in moments you feel everything comes together and is in sync – or ‘in flow’. You feel energised. Engaging fully in the roles you play or the tasks you do makes a huge difference to relationships, outcomes – and even safety.
F is for FOCUS
We get what we focus on. Good and not-so-good. You’ve probably heard the saying “If you think you can, you can – and if you think you can’t, you can’t”. So, keep your focus on the outcome and what it will feel like at the end, not on how challenging the journey may be.
G is for GET GOING, GO FOR IT and GOALS
Know what you want – and get moving. It may be a new year, however I’m not talking New Years Resolutions – although if that works for you, that’s great. I’m talking about deciding what you want, planning what it’s going to take to achieve – then getting going. It also helps to keep your goals to yourself to start with.
H is for HEALTH, HOPE and HAPPINESS
Health is in our hands, no matter our health status. We get one body, so get to know it. As scary as it may seem, accepting and understanding your health, illnesses, injuries, medication helps you stay informed and feel in charge. It often gives choices where you thought there were none. Hope goes a long way to keep us healthier too. So does being happy. Make it a habit to find things to be happy and hopeful about.
I is for INSPIRE
Inspire yourself and others to be their best. To do things they may not think they have the courage to do. To be creative. Inspiration can turn up in all kinds of places. A conversation. Video. Movie. Look for the inspiration around you. Share it. Be it – without the need to know how you inspire others.
J is for JOY
Does the thought of ‘finding joy each day’ sound a bit cliche? Even if it does, why not trial it anyway – give it a go? Joy is an inner feeling. Research1 proves that feeling more joy has many benefits. It can lead to a healthier lifestyle, boost our immune system, help us deal better with stress and pain – and improve our chances of living a higher quality life for as long as possible.
Well, Joy seems a good place to finish today.
Shifting mindset and embracing these 10 keys is an individual journey.
When you know what you want and the belief, desire and focus are strong, it’s easier to be engaged and take consistent action. That doesn’t mean it will feel easy every day. And that’s why it’s important to focus on what it will feel like when you are ‘your best self’ and achieving what you want.
And for something different today – discussion questions:
- What’s the most important point for you in The A-J of Success and Wellness?
- If this was your list, what would you add to extend it past J?
Feel free to share your answers below.
Until next time…
Anne
