Welcome to 2025!
I’m a big believer in making every day feel like New Year’s Day, which is another way of being present each day. With the optimism and excitement that usually goes with heading into a New Year.
So, how has your year started? Have the first 22 days been the way you wanted them to be? Thought they would be?
My new year started with blocked pipes and Tennis. No, the blocked pipes isn’t a metaphor! There’s an odd plumbing setup between our house and our adjoining neighbour. They had a burst pipe and flood on New Years Eve – and our pipes got blocked. All very odd.
So, attending the night matches at the Tennis on New Years Day was a highlight. A great start to 2025!
Since then?
I’ve watched a lot of tennis, worked, and done less writing, posting and speaking than I thought I would have done by now. And I’m going with it! 22 yesterdays have happened – and I’m here now.
It’s scary to see that I wrote my last blog on 5 June 2024. Hard to face that no matter how high my passion, or how strong my intent, it’s like I’ve been invisible.
Well invisible and small are ‘so last year’. 2024 was an incredible year! It provided more depth than ever about things I’ve believed and spoken about ever since I can remember.
7 Things I know better after 2024
I’ve always taken pride in how I think. How mentally strong I am. How audacious, tenacious, focused, passionate, driven. And human. There are many things I already knew before 2024 – many I’ve known all my life. Yet, 2024 was the year I got to know these things – and myself – better than ever.
Here are 7 of these things that I know better and will not compromise on:
- We got what we focus on, not what we want. There’s a place for being realistic – whilst keeping our innermost focus on how we want things to be. Health. Money. Relationships.
- healthy conversations matter – starting with the ones you have with yourself. Have better self talk and it helps you as well as everyone you come into contact with.
- Understanding the key concepts of my Wellness/Wellbeing Barometer is the key to understanding why “How we are and who we are impacts and influences what we do and how we do it.”
- Mindset and the way we think underpins our thoughts and actions. Every one of them. Small things. Big things. Everything.
- Being present matters. Especially when you are able to be present, let go of things that don’t serve you well – and bring forward those things that help you be better today than you were yesterday.
- Doing is important – and so is sitting still. The downside of being a do-er is that it’s easy to get caught in a vortex that leads to having too much on your plate – and always feeling behind when things don’t get done. So, slotting time for ‘sitting still’ is important.
- Knowing what’s important. To me, that means the relationship I have with my son, myself and my health, and also with my work. As a mum, these have been three driving passions. And sometimes one needs to take priority, so the others can as well.
Food for Thought
These are 7 of the things from 2024 that have helped me be the version of myself I am today. I haven’t gone into details, and there’s a whole lot more to share over the coming week’s, months and years.
